Episode 19 : Lauren Cohen
Lauren Cohen explores themes of control, power, sexuality, and violence, focusing on societal "otherness." Drawing from her New England upbringing, she creates fictional mythologies by blending historical elements with personal growth. Cohen's art, involving symbols and artifacts from various eras, delves into existential questions and the darker aspects of humanity, yet hints at hope, likened to a curve signifying change.
Since relocating to New York in 2018, Cohen has depicted her experiences through a naked cartoon alter ego in four graphic novels, examining an artist's struggles with success and existence. Her work spans paintings, sculptures, graphic novels, and comedy, drawing inspiration from her life and roles, including working for NBC's Saturday Night Live and at a Chelsea art gallery. Her latest project, "The Invisible Cue Card Girl," was released in 2024, with "Gallerina" underway.
